Dasu Hydropower Project Blast: 13 Including 9 Chinese Killed

On Wednesday 14th July there was a bomb blast incident with a bus in the Upper Kohistan district of KPK Pakistan. 13 deaths were recorded. 9 of them were Chinese engineers working on the Dasu Hydropower Project. Project is a main part of CPEC. 

World Bank approved The Dasu Hydropower Project 2012. 500 Chinese staff and overall 2000 laborers are working on the project. They had completed 30% of the work on the project before the incident.

The bus was carrying 39 people. The Incident made 26 people seriously injured. Pakistani authorities confirmed it as a terrorist attack. 

Chinese Reaction On Incident

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang contacted his Pakistani counterpart on the phone. He urged Pakistan authorities to take necessary actions to prohibit incidents like these in the future. 

China has sent a 15-members expert team to the incident location. The team decided to stop work on the site. They ordered workers to go back to their homes till further orders. There happened many attacks on Chinese people in Pakistan. But they never decided to suspend work.

Security Threats To CPEC

There were security threats to CPEC projects because of destabilizing situations in Afghanistan. Initial suspects are towards TTP and ETIM’s involvement. Indian involvement in terrorism in Pakistan is an open secret. China can break the chicken neck of India if things turn into more escalations. 

Pakistani law enforcement agencies are very firm that they will hang culprits of terrorism. Enemies of China Pakistan Economic Corridor will not get a hideout on earth. 

A similar terrorist incident took place in Lahore a few weeks ago. Pakistani law enforcement agencies rapidly investigated the case. And took evidence of the Indian State’s involvement in terrorism to the international media. India is in a panic about losing its assets and investments in Afghanistan.
