Digital carte Vitale: How can you use this in France?

The execution of the trial of the smartphone app version of the French health card is already in process in Rhône and Alpes-Maritimes. Furthermore, it is going to be trialled in 10 more departments. In the preparation of the Digital carte Vitale, the trial will process in autumn. According to the estimation, the Digital carte Vitale will roll out by 2023 in France.

Where is digital carte Vitale trialled?

Currently, the trial of digital carte Vitale is running in Rhône and Alpes-Maritimes. However, from October 1, 2021, to December 31, 2022, it will be accessible to the following ten additional departments. 

  • Seine-Maritime
  • Bas-Rhin
  • Loire-Atlantique
  • Puy-de-Dôme
  • Sarthe
  • Saône-et-Loire
  • Nord
  • Paris
  • Hérault
  • Gironde

How to set up carte Vitale? 

The digital carte Vitale is a mobile application, and it is available in the google play store. But not so quickly. 

The Cpam state health insurance body sends letters to people in participating departments asking them to be a part of the trial. And once people agree to participate, then they can download the app from Google Play or the Apple Store.

To complete the installation, the participants must submit a couple of photos in the app. They need to submit the images of their physical carte Vitale and a passport for proof of identity. 

It is also necessary to submit a photo for the identity, which an individual can click by himself. After submitting all these photos for the digital carte Vitale, it is necessary to create a four-digit passcode for opening the app. 

Where can you use your carte?

After installing the app and submitting all necessary credentials, a user can use the digital carte Vitale with associating healthcare professionals. However, it is still essential to have a physical card because all the professionals are not associated with the trials. 

In order to use your digital carte Vitale, you need to tap the flux button. And place the smartphone in front of the digital reader of a healthcare professional.

Once it is connected, then all the information of healthcare reimbursements of person will be access. Also, it will function in a similar way to the physical card to Cpam for reimbursement of medical costs. 

One more feature allows participants to permit other users to use their digital cards for 30 days. 

Who can access your data?

Similar to the data collection from the physical carte Vitale system.The data from the digital carte Vitale will be managed by Caisse nationale d’assurance maladie (Cnam).

And this includes all sets of information such as provided photos and identity documents. 

The Cnam is the trustful body, and it keeps the data securely within itself to prevent carte Vitale fraud. 

What is a carte Vitale? 

It is a credit card-sized card that enables the holder to benefit from the national health insurance reimbursements. This card has a microchip in it, which holds up the credentials of the users in it. 

This card will help to overcome the high cost of your health. And if you are a resident or associate of the French social security system, you can apply for carte Vitale. 

Is it necessary to update it?

You can update your card easily from the machines or at the Cpam offices once a year. But for the new digital version, it will be unnecessary. If any significant change happens in your details, then you should consider the update.
