Euro Cup 2021: England accused of ‘unfair’ home games

Several teams in Euro Championship are playing on home ground against their group teams due to the UEFA’s decision to limit the tournament to 11 cities only. The tournament started with Italy kicking off and stealing a match against Turkey with 3-0 in front of its own Rome fans. When England faced Croatia on Sunday 13th June and won the match 1-0, Luka Modric, Croatia’s captain, and midfielder revealed a startling fact about England. He firmly stated that England had been given an ‘unfair’ advantage on their home games since all the three group matches are scheduled for Wembley.

England has a decisive advantage as the last sixteen matches, including semi-finals and finals, are also scheduled for Wembley only. The reason why Modric is emphasizing the accused is that the crowd of home fans plays a significant role in the game. And the match, which was held on Sunday, had a massive English crowd for the support while there was no official ticket allotment for Croatian fans. It is known that the team having a home crowd has a little advantage because of the support.

England is one of the favorites in the tournament. Thus they are more aggressive during matches due to the support and in front of their media to create a psychological impact on the rival teams. However, Modric assured that they are well prepared for the upcoming games with proper tactics and strategies.

England was also accused of having an arrogant attitude towards Croatia in the World Cup Semi-Finals that held three years back. However, they gain confidence as they have extensive public support on their sides.

Talking about Croatia, we might say that they resist going to the top due to some nuances. But Modric added that they have huge expectations of them; thus, they work hard to prove and showcase the truth themselves.
