Links With Maoist
Maoist is the biggest internal threat to Indian security. And are very powerful and active in many states of India. Government officials blamed 16 arrested activists including Father Stan Swamy for having links with Maoists.
Swamy categorically rejected all false allegations of alignment with Maoists. He linked his arrest with his writings. In which he tried to reduce caste injustice systems in the country. He was a messiah for people of tribal areas.
Outrage In India
His arrest was a sparking moment of widespread outrage in India. Many intellectual elites and politicians raised their voices for his release.
The BJP Government amended the anti-terror law in 2019. The new amendment granted authority to the government. Through which it can label any person a terrorist. Police can confine any citizen for 6 months without having any evidence against him. Sensible critics call this law draconian and a tool to mute the voice of dissents against the BJP government.
