Fire Incident in Bangladesh killed at least 52

On Thursday night there was a fire incident in Bangladesh in a factory outside Dhaka. Incident killed at least 52 laborers of the Hashem Foods Ltd factory. There was an inside illegal lock on the doors of a 5 story building. Fire extinguisher officials reported initial details on Friday.

Fire incident in Bangladesh Official’s Statement

Debasish Bardhan is the deputy director of the fire service and civil defense. On Friday he informed that the main exit door was illegally locked. Which trapped workers. And became the reason for 52 casualties. Many laborers jumped to escape. And had suffered serious injuries.

Bangladesh is in highlights due to its economic achievements. Many experts are praising progressive strategies of the government. Hence there is a drawback of development. Cheap labour and poor labour conditions are messing the country’s bright sides. 

Conditions Of Workers In Bangladesh

Thousands of poor workers are forced to work in risky environments. Though some improvement in the garment sector has been seen in recent months. That was also done after a big tragedy. But thousands of local factories are not safe for working purpose.

Cited Reasons Of Fire Incidents

Reasons for these fire incidents may be corruption and low law enforcement checks. There are many multinational brands operating in the country. Their main benefit in the country is their low cost in manufacturing. They mainly save huge amounts because of low wage employees. But there are now heavy international pressures on them to improve workers’ conditions.

Factories can’t lock main exit doors during working hours. This is the law in Bangladesh. Relatives of the workers are in deep sorrow and anger. They also clashed with police on Friday. Government regretted the fire tragedy. And announced an investigation to find the cause of the fire.
