The European Union (EU) has rejected a request from France and Germany for a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Last Thursday 27 countries of the European Union failed to come to a common decision. In this meeting the German chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron talked about to held is Summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in spite of the imposing sanctions on Russia by the EU. But the Baltic states and Poland said that it would further damage East-West relations. The German chancellor said, “It was a very comprehensive discussion, and not an easy one,” she told reporters. “There was no agreement today on an immediate leaders’ meeting.”
Moscow’s relations with the European Union have not been good for a long time due to its occupation of parts of Ukraine. In addition, the European Union imposed energy and arms and military sanctions on the country. The summit which was held between US President Joe Biden and Putin in Genova last 16 june, also arranged for the topic. On the other hand British-Russian relations have been warmed by the following of Royal war ship in the crimean Peninsula.
In the meantime, the European Union has rejected the offer of France and Germany to hold talks to normalize relations with Russia. Though the member state France is one of the nuclear power, EU relies on NATO for its arms supply and others. So it is quite impossible to make a worse relation with MATO. Experts say another sanctions against Moscow could come from the European Union on money laundering.
