India is held spellbound by a series of viruses and infections. An intense second wave of corona virus has claimed more than 300,000 precious lives in India. Black fungus and Aspergillosis are detected in covid-recovered patients.
While they are still on the brink of rapidly rising covid cases, another fatal infection, Mucormycosis, hit the states of India. Till now this 1500 cases of black fungus are reported mainly from Maharashtra and Delhi.
What is Mucormycosis?
According to Dr. Nair, Mucormycosis is a very rare infection. It is caused by exposure to mucor mold which is commonly found in soil, plants, manure, and decaying fruits and vegetables. It affects the sinuses, the brain and the lungs and can be life-threatening in severely immunocompromised individuals”.
A team of four doctors said, this infection was mostly found in patients who were infected with covid earlier, as steroids used in treatment protocol tend to compromise the immune system.
Aspergillosis – A subtype
Just recently, another infection was reported by the name of Aspergillosis – A common mold that lives indoors and outdoors. People can get aspergillosis by breathing in microscopic Aspergillus spores from the environment, people with weakened immune systems are at a higher risk of developing breathing related issues.
Doctors have asked the authorities to look into the matter and declare a state of emergency in some states that are mostly affected.
Authorities Measures :
Government has approved the production of amphotericin B to curb the infection and word is given to start production as early as possible.
Chairman of modern Laboratory stated, “We will work with a capacity of manufacturing 10,000 injections daily and our priority will be to give them first to Madhya Pradesh and then to other states. This injection will be in the emulsion form. The price in the market will be around Rupees 3000, while we will give the government around Rupees 1500”.
