The oxford graduate and human rights activist, Malala Yousafzai, made it to the cover of British vogue for her defying fight over female empowerment and education
Malala took to her social media and posted, “I know the power that a young girl carries in her heart when she has a vision and a mission — and I hope that every girl who sees this cover will know that she can change the world”
Malala, who escaped a near death experience In Pakistan when she was shot in an assassination attempt. She moved to Birmingham with her parents and living there with her family since then
Malala has been very vocal about female empowerment and female education since it is the only way out of a narrow-minded society
The noble laureate was photographed by Nick Knight for the July 2021 cover of British Vogue, she looked ethereal in a bright red assemble and a matching head scarf by Stella McCartney
Val Garland created her look for the photoshoot, “Malala and I collaborated to achieve a look that did this. Dewy, gorgeous skin was a must, and we worked together to bring out her incredible eyes – it was really important to retain her essence,” Val added.
Regarding her wardrobe for photoshoot Malala explained, “”It’s a cultural symbol for us Pashtuns, so it represents where I come from. And Muslim girls or Pashtun girls or Pakistani girls, when we follow our traditional dress, we’re considered to be oppressed, or voiceless, or living under patriarchy,” she shared. “I want to tell everyone that you can have your own voice within your culture, and you can have equality in your culture.”
Many known Pakistani figures, such as; Ayesha Omar, Mahira Khan, Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy, Ali Sethi, Azfar, Muniba Mazari and Meesha Shafi appreciated her for the achievement
