Myanmar has refused to comply with the UN resolution. The UN General Assembly recently adopted a resolution against Myanmar’s military government, condemning the military coup that took place on February 1 this year.
The United Nations has adopted a resolution against Myanmar’s military government on June 18 in support of 119 countries. The resolution includes a verse about stopping torture against the Revolutionary groups. It calls for the release of democratic leaders, including Aung San Suu Kyi, who is already in captivity. However, Myanmar has naturally refused to comply.
Myanmar’s military government has said the proposal was adopted after a one-sided analysis. It ignored their perspective. Actually, no country is obliged to accept a UN resolution but it has quite an importance in Global politics.
However, Myanmar itself voted against the resolution, which was adopted by the UN General Assembly last Friday. Surprisingly, Myanmar’s Permanent Representative to the UN voted in favor of the resolution, opposing the military government. Actually, the PR is working in favor of the Unity Government. If one wants to send its PR to United Nations then the country first submits its credentials to the UN Credentials Committee to send its Permanent Representative. However, the current representative to the UN was approved at the 75th session of the UN. If the country wants to change its permanent representative then it has to wait until the 76th session which will be held in September.
