NASA is about to challenge the entrepreneurs to identify innovative ideas and invites fresh participants. It is aiming to develop in the research of science and technology. NASA is about to achieve a science mission in the development of the commercial sector. This challenge seeks to focus on the entrepreneurs’ involvement in formulating innovations in science.
Entrepreneurs will have to foster research and technology at lower costs. This will seek to develop underserved communities. NASA focused on different innovative ideas from the world. Most of the entrepreneurs responded in return to this challenge.
Nicole Rayl’s Statement at NASA
Nicole Rayl is the acting chief technologist for Science at NASA headquarters in Washington. He has said that NASA relies on innovative ideas in technology. It is about to advance in its crucial science missions. According to him, today’s new ideas would be cutting edge to tomorrow’s research. NASA sponsors and supports such innovative development in every step of the research process. The staff of NASA always being excited about these challenges. They love to see the creativities in different research in technology.
Three defined technological ideas
There are three broad technological ideas. Winning participants have to contribute in these following parameters:
- Small satellite capabilities to enable science.
- Metamaterials-based sensor technologies
- Sample handling and processing technology for the detection of biomarkers in highly dilute samples.
The entrepreneurs have to work on these three areas. NASA has challenged these three specific parameters, focussing on certain scientific experiments. NASA is already involved in the research in satellites but now aims to modify its full-fledged role in different fields. On the other side, metamaterials-based technology is one of the specifications in the current state-of-the-art sensing mechanism in electromagnetic sensing applications. Metamaterials discovered stunning technological sensations in sensor applications. It has great integration in electronic gadgets, industry-grade measurement, remote sensing techniques, and biomedical applications.
About the Competition and Awards
There are two rounds in the challenge. The finalist participants will be awarded $90,000. The Science mission directorate is the chief organizer of the competition. The awarding amount will be given in a two-stage process. NASA aims to increase participation in follow-on activities. These activities concern the Small business Innovative Research Program. This is about learning the innovative ways with the agency.
In Round One
All the participants will submit a five-page white paper. In this paper, the capability of their innovative ideas is broadly described. This will show the relevant science-enabling area and technology. The NASA panel will select the top 20 ideas and promote them to the next round of the competition. Each participant will be awarded $10,000 by the end of 1st round.
Participants that promoted in round two, have to modify their concepts into detailed submissions. In the second and final round, they have to submit a more comprehensive white paper. In this all the innovative ideas required to be fully researched and scientifically approved. Moreover, the participants also have to attend the live Virtual Pitch Event which is organized by the agency. The NASA judging panel will evaluate their ideas based on white papers and Pitches. NASA has invited Venture capital firms and companies to attend the Virtual Pitch Event. These companies will focus on the relevant innovative ideas for further assessment.
At the end of the event, the judging panel will finalize 10 of the winning companies. These 10 highest scoring teams will be awarded $80,000 each.
