Russia Will Quit ISS After 2024,  Build Its Own Space Station

Russia will quit ISS after 2024, build its own space station. There are growing tensions 

between Russia and the West over the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Now, Moscow has announced plans to quit the International Space Station (ISS) after 2024. 

Russian media has reported about the decision during a meeting between Viladimir Putin and Yuri Borisov. He is the new Director General of Roscosmos Space agency. 

Russia Will Quit ISS After 2024

Russia has decided to quit the ISS because the European space agency ends cooperation with Russia over the Mars rover mission. Accordingly, the Russian space chief suggests ISS could crash into US or Europe as a result of sanctions

There are tensions with the Russian Government in the wake of the invasion of Ukraine in February. And, they had seen subsequent sanctions on Russia. Now, there are threats of war of words between NASA and Roscosmos over the future of the ISS.

Statement Of Yuri Borisov

Yuri Borisov the director general of Roscosmos stated:

“Of course, we will fulfil all our obligations to our partners, but the decision to leave this station after 2024 has been made.” 

But, till 2024, the International cooperation on the station will continue. That is in between NASA, Japan’s JAXA, Europe’s ESA, and Canada’s CSA space agencies.
