Spain’s Chief Of Intelligence Dismissed Over Pegasus Spyware Scandal

Spain’s Chief of Intelligence dismissed the Pegasus Spyware Scandal. He has the allegations for hacking mobile phones of senior politicians. 

Spain’s Intelligence Chief Paz Esteban has been dismissed from CNI over the Pegasus Spyware Scandal. The agency accused him of using software from the Israeli NSO group. 

Spain’s Chief Of Intelligence Has Been Dismissed 

Spain’s Intelligence Agency accused the Chief for involving Israeli NSO group. They are to spy using mobile phones of Pro-independence Catalan leaders.

Accordingly, the sources identified hacking of phones of Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and Defense Minister Margarita Robles . Then, the spies hack these by an external power in 2021.

However, Esteban acknowledged that Pegasus hacked the phones of several Catalan separatists. 

Statement Of Margarita Robles

Defense Minister Margarita Robles said after a Cabinet meeting that there are many things to improve in the system. According to the sources, the hacking of government officials had taken a year to discover.

Afterwards, he ensured that these attacks won’t happen again, even after there was no way to be completely safe.

What Is Pegasus Spyware?

Pegasus is a spyware network in Israel. Accordingly, the Israeli cyber-arms company NSO group has developed the Pegasus. Now, this system used to be working on mobile phones. 

Accordingly, the Pegasus has become capable of doing multiple objectives. And, those include reading text messages, collecting passwords, tracking locations, and much more.

Response By The Spanish Government 

The Spanish government responded to the Spyware scandal. However, the head of Amnesty International in Spain said that the Spanish government couldn’t make any excuse to cover up these human rights violations. 

On the other hand, the European Parliament initiated an investigation into the use of Pegasus. Also, investigated the role of Pegasus against politicians in Hungary, Catalonia and Poland.
