The government of Pakistan declares 2021-22 as ‘Sports Year’

The federal government has announced celebrations for ‘The Year of Sports’ (2021-22), starting from August 14.

Celebrations originated for two reasons: to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the country’s independence and to honor the completion of the 70th year of Pak-China Friendship.

DG Pakistan Sports Board, Col. (Retd) Asif Zaman said that he had assigned concerned authorities to re-track wrecked sporting issues of Pakistan. He chooses to celebrate 2021-22 as the “Year of Sports in Pakistan”.

The year of sports (2021-22)

In his inaugural formal media talk at the sports complex, he said: The year starting from the 74th anniversary of Pakistan’s independence will mark the beginning of the Sports Year.

“We want to dedicate the year by holding different events with the help and collaboration of the stakeholders. Every step would be made to make the year an outstanding one from a sports perspective.”

The Sports Board, sports federations, and journalists ’societies must also play their role in rebuilding the full prestige of the sport.

He further added; The PSB, provincial sports boards, federations, and sports commentators must show involvement in the rehabilitation of sports.

Pakistan is also going to host the upcoming South Asian Games, to reclaim the spotlight in the sports fields.

The DG revealed that an important meeting is scheduled after Eid. The meeting between the government and POA will finalize all the elements of the Games that Pakistan is to host in March 2023.

He said we are facing various issues including the venues for each sport. Islamabad and Peshawar might become the hosting cities, but stakeholders in both cities want some share in the Games.

Inviting all stakeholders for sports year(2021-22):

Asif also wanted associations to come up with their plans. “I have invited all the leading federations to come up with their respective sports development plans after Eid.” “We would assist them in their good cause and help them in hiring international coaches in special alliance with the 14th South Asian Games.”

We want to raise a real strong unit for each sport. For this purpose, we want to harmonize with each federation and are ready to extend full support. We are having enough resources to organize that.

The requirement of international coaches has also been ensured and practical steps are being taken in this regard. PSB would take the best steps for the South Asian Games.

The preparation of the players is the responsibility of the federations and he was sure that after coordinating the camps and availability of the best coaches for the players, the players would give their best.
