White House fellowship programme

On Monday, 19 new emerging leaders were announced as fellows for the white house for 2021-2022, of which three of them are Indian Americans.

Professionals from various backgrounds work full-time in the prestigious White house as staff, cabinet secretaries, and other government officials. And these members are selected from the fellowship programme of the white house. 

And Indian Americans who earned their positions in the White House are Sunny PatelJoy Basu, and Aakash Shah from California and New Jersey.

In the history of the programme, this White House fellow is portrayed as a most diverse class. President Lyndon B Johnson created this class in 1964.

Role of Joy Basu In White House & About Her 

Joy Basu from San Francisco will handle the Gender Policy Council in the White House. Earlier she used to work as a senior adviser to the businesses. She also used to work as a key architect and the builder of the Rise fund, and at TPG growth, she was the first chief staff also. That financing platform was groundbreaking. 

She also contributed her service in the food and agriculture of the Rise Fund’s global sector. She worked as a consultant in the company name McKinsey where she used to handle the department of agricultural development primarily, working with businesses etc. Her particular aim was to strengthen the government and donors relationship to better the food system in the emerging markets. 

Moreover, in Agriculture, she also contributed as a project manager in World Economic Forum’s New Vision project. 

Ms Basu completed her JD and MBA from Standford University and earned the certification of pubic innovation and management. Moreover, from Duke University, she earned her BA in Economics and Public Policy.

Right now, she’s one of the hardworking members of the Council on Foreign Relations and Heifer International Foundation’s trustee. 

Role of Sunny Patel in White House & About Him

Talking about Sunny Patel, he’s the psychiatrist currently working in the Department of Homeland Security in the White House. He is a public health physician and highly inclined in creating equitable health systems for children and families. 

He created a model at NYU which embeds mental health services. 

At Bellevue Hospital, he was suggested as the palliative care physician for launching a significant mental health response. This response was generally for the thousands of front line workers of the Covid-19 Pandemic. 

Talking about Mr Patel, he’s one of those heroes who have governed many health interventions for the countries with vulnerable populations like India, Thailand, DRC etc. 

He served his last decade in the treatment of the refugee populations. And for the people who are asylum seekers, he worked with Physicians for Human Rights and NYU to provide them psychological examinations.

Mr Patel’s work was presented at the UN General Assembly as well as published in many journals. 

At Adams House of Harvard College, he worked as a home tutor also. From Harvard Medical School and Cambridge Health Alliance, Sunny had finished his studies of adult psychiatry residency. 

He earned numerous degrees of his MD, MPH, bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Mayo Clinic, Harvard, and UCLA, respectively. 

Role of Aakash Shah & About Him

Aakash Shah will be controlling the Department of Health and Human Services in the White House. During the time of the pandemic, he treated many confirmed COVID-19 cases. 

At Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Mr Shah also contributes as a Director of Addiction Medicine. 

His work in these fields helped a lot in the treatment of opioid use disorder. He also contributed as the founder of the Be jersey strong. Be jersey strong was honoured by Barack Obama in the White house. He served as an adviser too.
